Briana L. Cox, Psy.D.

Dr. Cox is a licensed psychologist with over 15 years of experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to adults, adolescents, and families. At Somerset Psychological Group she offers outpatient therapy and comprehensive psychological and forensic evaluations.

Dr. Cox earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, a Master’s degree from Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. Her training includes a clinical internship at McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, where she provided individual, couples, and group psychotherapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings, working with individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological concerns.

Her clinical work is grounded in extensive experience across diverse settings, including private practice, hospitals, university counseling centers, and community agencies. She has specialized training in psychological and forensic evaluations. Dr. Cox also has a longstanding commitment to working with individuals impacted by trauma, including domestic violence, and has provided both therapeutic services and community education in this area.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cox has been an active leader in the professional community. She is a past President of the New Jersey Psychological Association and has contributed to multiple committees focused on diversity, inclusion, and professional development. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with the New Jersey Psychological Association’s Psychologist of the Year Award in 2024, as well as the Jane Seltzer Membership Recognition Award.

Dr. Cox has presented at professional conferences and community events on topics including cultural competence in therapy, racial trauma, women’s mental health, and coping with stress during challenging times. She is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs, and to creating a supportive, collaborative therapeutic environment.
